THE DISTURBANCES IN CANTON NEIGHBOURHOOD,

BRITISH FLAG FYRED ON.

We have received from Canton confirmation of the story given by our correspondent yester day that as the Hongkong. Canton and Macao Steamboat Co.'s steamer Lungkiang was on her way up from Canton to Wachow she was fired at from the town of Luklua or Lak Low, near Kumchuck, on the 24th Sept. One Chinese mem- ber of her crew was wounded and a European passenger (one of the I. M. Customs staff) was, we understand, also burt.

The affair was reported to the French vessel of war Avalanche.

We await with interest to see what action. the British Government will take to put a stop to a state of things that has become intolerable.
